New details concerning Apple’s first foldable iPhone have emerged online. A tipster has now divulged major design characteristics of the so-called iPhone Fold, which is expected to launch in September of this year.
Instant Digital said on Weibo that the iPhone Fold will have volume buttons on the top-right side, similar to the iPad mini. This configuration is supposedly due to the motherboard being located on the right side, with Apple choosing to avoid wiring cables across to the left edge.

Meanwhile, the power button, which includes Touch ID, and the Camera Control button are rumored to be located on the device’s right edge. The tipster adds that the foldable’s left side would be fully button-free.
On the front, the iPhone Fold is rumored to have a single punch-hole camera for selfies and video chats. Around the rear, it will reportedly have a dual-camera array housed in an iPhone Air-style camera plateau, as well as an LED flash and microphone.
The source also believes that the rear camera module will be completely black, contrasting with rather than matching the body’s hue. The iPhone Fold is expected to arrive in two colors, one of which will be white.
Apple’s foldable iPhone apparently has a layered construction on the inside to make room for the huge battery.
